General Notes: The Volitan is the most well known of the various Lionfish species within the aquarium trade. The Volitan has only partially tissue filled pectoral fins, with red pelvic fins and relatively clear anal and caudual fins. Wide and narrow dark red bands alternate across the body and there are tentacle-like growths above the eyes. Hardy fish, can be kept with other lionfish, and eats small fish that can fit in its mouth.
