Description:
|
Compatibility: Keep in a species tank or with other fish of similar size and behavior in a large tank.
Maximum Size: 4 in.
Minimum Tank Size: 20 Gallons
Temperature: 75-79 F
Diet: Algae and small crustaceans in the wild, will take regular flake food in home aquaria. Should be supplemented with an algae based food like spirulina.
Level of care: Great beginner African fish.
General Notes: This easy to breed Tanganyikan cichlid needs a tank with rocky formations and many caves. It needs a medium to hard water with a high Ph to flourish. It eats all types of foods, ranging from flake to live food. It is a shelter breeder, meaning that they spawn in caves. Should be kept in groups, unless, that is, if they are spawning. Sometimes referred to as “Neolamprologus elongatus“ or “Lamprologus savoryi elongatus.”

Brichardis are a lot of fun...if I ever got a chance to redo everything I would either do a tank without them and mix some other fish...or do a species only tank with the brichardis. A pair of them have managed to take over the tank in territory and population in a few months since their first brood of babies. They are great fun to watch how they get along in their \"family community\" and I would definitely reccomend them.

I thoroughly enjoy my Brichardi, my wife has named ours Zorro. We bought him/her at Petland and was a tankmate with same sized yellow labs and one other species of African Cichlid. We brought them home and the Brichardi has since adjusted well to the additional africans that we have since put in the tank. Beautiful fish, when you see them. They have a tendancy to find a good hiding hole and become active during feeding or territory disputes.
