goldenbutterfly

Description: Compatibility: Not Reef Safe
Maximum Size: 6-7 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 50 gallons
Temperature: 78-82F
Diet: Varied Diet of all types of food
Level of care: Medium
General Notes: The Golden butterflyfish is golden-yellow overall, with a series of closely spaced vertical orange bars on its sides along with a dark bluish-gray patch behind the eye. Golden butterflyfish are found in areas of rich coral growth and in relatively shallow water. Thus when keeping them in the aquarium is important to provide them with a similar environment in order to give them the feeling of security they will need to thrive. As with all butterflyfish it is important to provide as close of a natural diet as possible. Golden butterflyfish are interesting in that they are somewhat fearless and easily approached underwater. They are found either in pairs or groups numbering up to about 20 individuals. Spends the morning in the safety of the reef, becoming active in the afternoon to feed.

Pros: Very beautiful rare fish
Cons: needs a big tank

If you get a good individual, it can be a very hardy inhabitant...although sometimes it refuses to feed. Overall it needs a big tank 100+gallons, non aggressive tankmates, and a lot of live rock to graze on.
