Description: Name: Hair Algae
Other Names: Fuzz algae
Symptoms: Grows in bright green clumps in gravel, around base of plants and mechanical objects. Coarser texture than Beard Algae, Tends to form matted clumps. Individual strands can get to 2 inches (5 cm) or more in length.

Causes: Nutrient imbalance (nitrates and phosphates), CO2 fluctuations

Treatments:
1. Manually remove by twirling toothbrush in it
2. Cherry/Ghost/Amano shrimp
3. Strict regime for dosing of fertilizers and CO2 production
4. American Flagfish
5. Excel overdose method
6. Regular water changes
7. Reduce light period (8-10 hrs)

Note: This type of algae will not overgrow if found in tank that is well cared for. Easily removed and controlled by regular maintenance.
