Description: Name: Green Water Algae Bloom
Other Names: Algae Bloom

Symptoms: Water turns green in color, in severe cases fish may not be visible. In beginning stages can be mistaken for bacteria bloom. It tends to hit newly established tanks.

Causes:
1. Suspended microscopic algae
2. Excess light to include direct sunlight
3. too many fish
4. excess nutrients
5. excess waste
6. ammonia in water (may not be measurable on test kit)

Treatments: 1. Big water changes
2. Sponge and filter floss to filter out green water
3. willow branch 2-3 cm in diameter (until water clears)
4. Blackout tank for three to four days
5. UV Sterilizer
6. Chemically treat with Algae Destroyer or
7. O.D. Flourish Excel(if no anacharis or vals)
8. reduce feedings
