Compatibility: Goes well with small fish in community tank. For successful breeding, use a shrimp-only tank.

Diet: Algae, flake food, blanched vegetables, sinking wafers
Level of care: easy
General Notes:These shrimp originated in the streams and ponds of Taiwan. They stay bright red all the time, but only if they have sufficient amounts of natural or artificial light. They are very active at night and will eat algae as well as leftover fish food. Many medications will injure or kill them and they cannot withstand high levels of nitrates. Females can be identified by brighter red, and yellow ovaries in the neck region or yellow eggs in the swimmerettes. Males are generally paler and slimmer through the tail area.

A great shrimp. Cleans algae and is so colorful. Funny antics. Breeds easily. Maybe be eaten by bigger fish. If you want their babies you have to keep them in a seperate tank.

A very good shrimp. I had a hair algae problem on my wisteria and anacharis and when I added them, it was gone. As fishcraziee said, they may be eaten by bigger fish like cichlids. A very great bottom feeder. They are also fun to watch just roam around the tank.

I bought 5 smaller juvenille cherry shrimp. The red color is not as deep as the picture in this profile, but mine are still young. They scavange the floor for any left-over food. Currently, they are in my fry tank and doing well. A few weeks in and now they are no longer hiding.
