Other Info: Acanthastrea corals are often confused with Favia, Micromussa, and Lobophyllia. They are characterized by many small polyps tightly packed over either a round base or along a flat plane. Acanthastrea are able to survive in almost any environment. Use caution when placing Acanthastrea near other corals because at night they do extend long sweeper tentacles. Acanthastrea will benefit from supplemental feeding of meaty fare.
Acanthastrea echinata appears as a single giant skeleton with interconnecting polyps. The corallites tend to be circular with thick walls.
