Description:
Lighting Level: Moderate
Placement: Bottom
Difficulty Level: Easy, good for beginners
Water Flow: Medium
Temperament: Low to Semi-aggressive
Endemic Area: Indonesia
Other Info: A large polyp stony (LPS) coral species, that is, a large calcareous coral with large, fleshy polyps. Colors can included red, green, pink, blue, and brown. Under actinics, the Brain Coral fluoresces highly, especially the inner mouth area. Ionic maintenance of calcium and strontium are required for proper skeleton growth and overall health of these types of coral. Its morphology can consist of a figure-eight, flattened, or folded shape. The T. radiate species is generally more convoluted in shape with fused walls. The oral disc/mouth area can consist of one to three of these “mouthes,” depending on the size and age of the coral. This type of coral prefers to be attached to shells, dead coral, or sand beds. This species possesses small sweeper tentacles that are extended only in low light conditions or at night. The fleshy polyps will expand greatly during the day to expose itself and the symbiotic zooxanthellae for photosynthesis of nutrients. It may be fed brine shrimp, plankton, or filter-feeding food for invertebrates.

Pros:
Very nice looking, accents the bottom of the tank, not hard to keep
Cons:
May be picked at by some fish
Very nice looking coral, not hard to keep given proper reef conditions. Tends to be "fish candy" towards the more coral nipping types of fish.
