Other Info: This species is a soft coral with a red calcareous skeleton and may often be referred to as a hard coral. It resembles other 8-leaved tentacle polyps such as Clove and Star polyps, without the encrustation that these other corals possess. The Pipe Organ coral derives its name from the calcareous red skeleton that resembles pipe organs. It is often favorable to reef aquarists because of its peaceful temperament, lack of sweeper tentacles, and ability to be placed near other peaceful corals. Its polyps are fragile and require good ionic balance (Calcium and carbonate) for maintenance of its skeleton. Nutrition is provided by the hosted zooxanthellae and it may be fed phytoplankton, zooplankton, or brine shrimp.
