Description:
|
Compatibility: Peaceful Schooling fish
Maximum Size: 1 Inch
Minimum Tank Size: 10gal
Temperature: 75-83F
Diet: Omnivore, accepts most foods, loves brine shrimp
Level of care: Easy
General Notes: Usually a hard fish to find but easy to keep. A good community fish that will stay small but still produce a lot of color and activity in the tank. They are a schooling fish, so it is reccomended to keep them in a group of at least 5 or 6. Females are a little more orange with more rounded bodies, while the males are bright red and have more streamlined bodies.

Ember tetras are probably my favorite tetra. I found them once at Petsmart and got a group of them...unfortunately now down to just one little male. They schooled with my harlequin rasboras sometimes, as they seem to have a similar body shape and similiar orange coloring even though they\'re a lot smaller. I doubt that an ember tetra could get up to an inch long...they stay tiny. I\'ve had this one for probably close to two years and he\'s probably only a 1/2 inch. They love planted tanks like the harlequin rasboras (whether they\'re fake or real plants). I would highly reccomend getting a school of these fish for your planted tank if you ever find them.
