Compatibility: Mildly Aggressive, Only suitable for tank that house cichlids of the same size or temperment. Maximum Size: 9" Minimum Tank Size: 50Gal Temperature: 78 - 82°F Diet: Herbivore, feed more with non meaty foods, as this fish is prone to "Malawi bloat". Level of care: Easy General Notes: The Red Empress lives up to its name and will become quite a show piece in any tank. This fish is very active but not overly aggressive. It will fit well into most Malawi tanks, although most like to either keep it in a species tank for breeding or a Hap only tank. It can however be mixed with Peacocks and Mbuna, also from Lake Malawi.
Being prone to Malawi Bloat, a diet consisting of no meaty foods suits this fish best. It will accept pellets or flakes.
Males generally have more color than the females. It is best kept in 1 male to 2-3 female groups and is a mouthbrooder. A rocky habitat is prefered.
