Description: Compatibility: Schooling Community Fish
Maximum Size: 2 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 15 G
Temperature: 75-81F
Diet:
Level of care: Easy
General Notes: The Colombian Tetra, also known as Red Tail Mirror Blue Tetra and Blue-Red Columbian Tetra, gets its name from its bright red tail and silver-blue body. A relatively new addition to the aquarium hobby, the Colombian Tetra was discovered in the 1990s and was not officially named until late 2001. This tetra is a good choice for a community aquarium where it can be kept in a school of at least five to minimize nipping and encourage schooling. A planted aquarium will help bring out their striking colors.

Pros: very bright beautiful colors
Cons: gets reeeaalllllly nippy if not in a school

i have one in a tank with 5 serpae tetras and im starting to wish i had more room so that i could add some more of these to suppress his nippy nature due to lack of school, but a brilliant beautiful fish nonetheless

Pros: Very pretty fish with great schooling characteristics
Cons: Had one die mysteriously

I had 6 of these guys...and 3 left after a couple months. 2 died as a result of my automatic feeder crapping out when I was on vacation. But one died a strange death. I called him "Chopper" because he always swam with his tail down lower than his head. Over time, this became more pronounced until he was almost vertical and died a short time later. I don't know if it was a species problem or just something strange wrong with that particular fish. The remaining three are great though! The biggest one is a bully in my community tank chasing the other fish every now and again.
