Description:
|
Compatibility: Peaceful Community Fish
Maximum Size: 5 inches
Minimum Tank Size:
Temperature: 72-82F
Diet: sinking bottom feeder pellets
Level of care: Easy
General Notes: This hard to breed fish is a freshwater fish that does well in peaceful community tanks provided that the tank is large enough. Several Port Hoplos should be kept together as they like company of their own kind. The Port Hoplo is a peaceful freshwater catfish that is suitable for the community aquarium (assuming that tankmates are similar in size). Several thoracatum should be kept together in an aquarium. They are sociable fish that do best when living in groups or in shoals. Big thanks to CAPSLOCK for the photos of 'Stumpy' & gang!

Great addition to a community tank. Won't bother even the smallest fish, gets along with everybody. They're in the same family as cories, so should be kept in groups. This is a bubblenest breeder. Nice leopard print pattern, black spots on brown background, with white under the chin. Armored plates along the sides are easy to see... they are also called the armored catfish. They are pretty hardy, but they are passive so shouldn't be with fin nippers.
Mine will eat at the surface, then go down to forage along the bottom. Eats anything available, as much as they can get... flakes, pellets, frozen, freeze-dried. They will rest anywhere... in a plant, on a cave, or on the gravel - they rest in groups.
