Description: Compatibility: Peaceful Community Fish
Maximum Size: 8 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 29G
Temperature: 75-80F
Diet: herbivore, feed fiberous foods such as spinach and other veggies. Will also accept algae wafers.
Level of care: Moderate
General Notes: The Farlowella Acus, also called a twig catfish or whip-tail catfish, is a suckermouth fish. This odd looking fish mimics a brown stick and blends into the aquarium decor. Most often found on the glass walls, the farlowella is peaceful and actually can be gently held in your fingers and moved if he's in the way. If provided with basic needs, such as a 30 gallon tank, lots of aeration, hiding places, this fish can be an interesting addition to a peaceful tank. Not recommended for aggressive tanks due to the fish's peacefulness and lack of speed. This fish can be sensitive to changes in water conditions such as temperature.

Pros: Interesting to watch, excellent algae eater
Cons:

A very diligent little guy, mine is only 5", yet he consumes more algae than two ottos and 3 amano shrimp formerly did!

In my experience, this is actually a pretty hardy fish. The only downside I can think of is they won't remove black algae. But hey, not much does.
