flyingfox

Description: Compatibility: Peaceful Community Fish
Maximum Size: 6 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 20G
Temperature: 74-79F
Diet: mainly algae, supplement with sinking bottom feeder pellets or algae tablets.
Level of care: Easy
General Notes: This fish resembles a Chinese Algae eater, with noteable differences. It has a black lateral stripe, with a silver or goldish one above it. This fish does not have the suction mouth of the CAE, but it does possess two 'whiskers'. Its main body color is an olive tone with a more silverish underbelly, and its fins sometimes have a yellow tint to them. An active fish that is best kept as the only bottom dweller. They have a tendency to fight with others of its own kind and they don't take too kindly to sharing with algae eaters. They're rather active fish, usually on the move cleaning off plants, decorations, and gravel. They do enjoy having a hiding place to retreat to as well.

Pros: eat a little of the algae
Cons: annoying, hard to catch fish

The flying fox is usually mistaken for a Siamese algae eater because they are so closely related. Flying foxes eat almost anything that floats to the bottom of the tank like brine shrimp and fish flakes. These fish are really active and hard to remove from a tank after you put them in because they swim so fast.
