Description:

Compatibility: Large Community Fish
Maximum Size: 18 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 55g would work for awhile...but an adult would need upwards of 90 gallons
Temperature: 72-82F
Diet: Does best with live food (feeder fish, ghost shrimp etc), but may be coaxed to eat high quality frozen foods like krill, or beef heart. In some cases can be fed bottom feeder pellets...however this is not reccomended as a staple food.
Level of care: Moderate (due to feeding and tank size requirements) General Notes: The Shovelnose Catfish is a large predatory catfish who does well with other large docile fish such as some cichlids and large characins. Like most catfish it prefers dim lighting and hiding places in the form of bogwood and large plants. It also like the company of others of the same species. Can be very picky about water quality. Do not keep with small community type fish that can be eaten. Not recommended for beginners.
