General Notes: A fine addition to a community tank. Playful, but has been known to play dead on occations. A good snail eater. YoYo Loaches like to have plenty of caves and feel more secure in a tank where they can hide. When they feel more secure they will come out and play more often. They can be kept alone, but generally do better in groups. Scaleless and sensitive to medications. Common name is derived from the markings on the fish, particularly the young, which spell Y-O-Y-O.

The Yoyo Loach (botia lohachata) is one of my favorite loaches. For one thing, it is an amazing snail eater. In the tank that houses a yoyo loach, you will be hard pressed to ever see a common ugly brown pond snail anywhere except inside your filter box in hiding. Yoyo loaches have a distinct black and white color pattern that fades somewhat with age. Yoyos will lie down on their sides on the gravel or on broad plant leaves, appearing to be dead, except for the movement of the gills that gives them away as simply taking a rest. I\'ve kept them individually and in groups and they seem to do well in either setting, although they definitely are more active when in a group.

Yoyos are a great fish for a medium-sized tank. As they age, their colors tend to get a little less bright than when they\'re young. They do eat plenty of snails, but also love bloodworms and brine shrimp. If you keep shrimp, the loaches may eat these. They do best in groups of three or more, and are happiest when there are a number of caves for them to hang out in. When young, they\'re very curious, and can get themselves stuck in small spaces (like powerheads or filter intakes), so make sure everything is \"loach safe\" before adding them to your tank. They\'re a lot less prone to ich than clown loaches. Some owners have reported nippiness from their yoyos.

My favorite fish! They are very playful and cute, almost reminding me of dogs or mice with their little snouts. I work second shift, so when I come home around 10 or 11 they are always very active. The do a good job of cleaning up any missed food and will eat almost anything. Since the first two nights, I\'ve never had a problem with them trying to escape. I wish I could have more of them!

These are great for snail control, i don't have snails yet because they have ate the ones that come in on plants, they also are very active day and night. Good fish to watch for entertainment.

I've got 4 of these guys in 2 different tanks, they play constantly  , and are very peaceful to their tankmates, they do a great job of cleaning up the bottom as well. They seem to like their own company, so I'd suggest 2 or more, based on your tank size.
