Minimum Tank Size: 10G
Temperature: 72-82F
Diet: flake food supplemented with a variety of live and frozen foods.

Pros: Hardy, nice shape on the fins.
Cons: Bland looking,can be nippy.

I had three of them when I first got in to the hobby,there.....OK. Not the best looking fish, they do however have nice shape to there fins, they also have a funny little swiming action.

However they can be a bit playful and nippy, they harrased my shrimp, and even chased my rts!!!

Pros: cute stripes; unique shape adds variety to any tank; very hardy
Cons: can be semi-aggressive

I used these guys to cycle my 20 gallon, and they never showed any signs of illness. I\'ve had them for about 6 months now, and they\'re still doing very well! I think they\'re rather beautiful fish, even if they aren\'t ultra-colorful. Since they were the first inhabitants of my tank, they tend to harass any new introductions, but after a half-hour or so they leave everyone alone. I would recommend these tetras for any tank except those with slow-eating fish, because these guys are sure to gobble everything up fast!

Pros: Hardy
Cons: Nippy

These fish are hardy as hell. I cycled my tank with five of them and they are all still alive a year later. It\'s interesting to see how they work out their pecking order - but sometimes gets sort of sad if one really gets picked on. After feeding time, they spar with each other. It is entertaining to see, but they aren\'t real active otherwise. One of the worst aspects about this fish is how nippy they are. I put a betta in with them and had to take it out the first night. They get fairly large for tetras.

Pros: hardy, fun to watch
Cons: duller coloring, nippy?

My daughter chose these because she enjoyed watching them at the store. They take turns chasing each other, and just when it gets close enough to nip, the chaser stops and turns around, as if to say \"Who, me? I wasn\'t doing anything.\"

Some say they are nippy, but I\'ve never actually seen them nipping other fish. They do chase others, though, and mine will even try to stand up (briefly) to territorial, spawning angelfish 3 times their size. They are good sprinters, though, and get away quickly.

They are schooling fish, but do not school tightly - our 6 are usually scattered all around the 120 g tank.

Pros: Unkillable.
Cons: Kinda boring.

This is a fish that no South American or community aquarium should be without. They\'re not terribly aggressive, easy to care for, and they live through almost anything. I\'ve had one of these little guys live for six years in my old 29 gallon tank back when I was a kid. He survived through all manner of ich outbreaks, filter crashes...you name it. I would imagine they\'re great for cycling since they\'re so hardy. It\'s just too bad they aren\'t beautiful; though I find them rather pleasant looking.

Pros: they always zoom around the tank
Cons: they are a bit nippy

At night all my black skirts go into a small cave and sleep together all crammed together. Over all they are great choice for small tanks in my experience and eat just about anything

Pros: I like the stripes and how they zoom.
Cons: They are quick eaters so it was hard to find anything I could put in with them.

I currently have one black skirt and one albino black skirt in a 15 gallon I love them the only thing is I dont know what to put in with them.

Pros: Nice fish, really hardy...
Cons: Fast eaters, very aggressive, exspensive for size...

These Black Skrits eat very fast. Great begginner fish. Not the most to look at. They stay mid-low tank. They only surface for food. Nippy fish. Small long finned fish they will tend to nip at. I do not reccomend with Molly and fish of the same shape.... To exspensive for the size

Pros: Fun to watch
Cons: Hog all the food

I have 6 in my 29 gal. tank housing community with my angel. They are fun to watch as they appear to play tag! Not the most colorful...but nonetheless a great community fish. Also seem to be very hardy. I recommend!

Pros: Tough as Nails, very active. Great for little kids starting out.
Cons: Not too colorful

These were some of my very first fish when i started my very 1st tank (10gal). Survived all the crap i put them thru. 100% water changes once every 6 months(thank God I know better now), i was a little kid with zero experience. Once one of em got popeye and survived surgery(i.e. ocular excision), lived for another 2yrs w/ 1 eye total 5yrs.

Pros: Hardy and Playful
Cons: Can be bullies

Like everyone else these were the first suckers in my first non betta tank and I used them to cycle it (unwittingly). They've survived ALL my stupid beginner mistakes and are happy and healthy as ever. They do nip at eachother's fins and they can hog the food (My Betta's have learned to hover under the feeding ring and block out the Black Skirts with their bodies until they're done eatting!). While they're not the prettiest fish ever I totally recommend them for any beginner!
