Description: Common Name: Hemianthus callitrichoides

Scientific Name: Hemianthus callitrichoides “cuba”

Light: High to Very High

Co2: Essential to growth

Level of Difficulty: Medium

Among the smallest of plants, H. callitrichoides is quite similar to the more readily found Hemianthus micranthemoides; H. callitrichoides is akin to a more diminuitive form. This South American plant is found in Cuba. It is a bright green with very small stems, measuring no more than a few millimeters in width.

In the aquarium, H. callitrichoides requires bright lighting and benefits from the addition of carbon dioxide. This plant creeps across the substrate to form a carpet. As such it is suited for the foreground of the smallest tanks and all aquarium sizes, though it may become lost in very large tanks.

It does not make many demands and tolerates a fairly wide range of conditions. It can, however, take some time to acclimate and begin growing well. It is slow to moderate in terms of growth rate.

Propagation involves planting cuttings taken from adult specimens. When planting, it is best to separate the clump into numerous smaller sections. Use a pair of tweezers to plant the stems into the substrate in grid-like fashion, at intervals as close as supplies allow. In time, the plant will radiate outwards and will cover the substrate.

Can be grown emersed.

Pros: great foreground
Cons: takes a long time to plant

Great plant for a foreground but it is a pain to plant because it is so small. If you think glosso was hard then this is probably gonna be 3 to 4 times harder even with the proper equitment (tweezers). Needs strong lighting to get to the bottom other then that it's needs are very similar to glosso. According to a lot of people it is slower then glosso but once it grows in and you have a good amount it'll shoot off from there. If you dont have tweezers this plant is impossible to plant so i would get some before buying this. It isn't available in any online stores at the moment except maybe one or two but they quickly run out. The best way of acquiring this plant would be from other hobbyists.
