elephantnose

Description: Compatibility: Peaceful community Fish
Maximum Size: 9 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 29G (but will probably need larger if they get over 6 inches)
Temperature: 74-80F
Diet: Should mainly consist of live food. They love bloodworms and will hunt in the substrate for food. Feed them when the lights are out, as they are noctournal.
Level of care: Moderate. Tank needs to be kept clean as they are sensitive to water conditions esp ammonia.
General Notes: These fish have mouths that extend like an elephant's trunk, thus the name Elephant nose. They use their extended mouths as a sesory organ to search for food in the substrate. They have an organ near their tail that generates weak electric signals that they use to communicate with each other. The electric pulse may bother some other fish at first. It is best to keep them in a group of 3 or more. They are are found in Africa. Elephant Nose's are nocturnal so you might want to put a blue light in the tank for better viewing. During the day they like to stay hidden and can become nervous/stressed out if there aren't enough hiding places, or if they are suddenly exposed to bright lights. They have been known to be escape artists, so be sure not to have any big openings on your tank.

Pros: There very social and peaceful fish.
Cons: There expensive, and you need to give them frozen or live food or they won\'t eat.

These fish are fun to watch. They never attack any fish, but they are a little expencive. Its important to give them frozen or live food like bloodworms or brine shrimp.
