frontosa

Description: Compatibility: Mildly Aggressive (will eat smaller tankmates)
Maximum Size: 12-16 in.
Minimum Tank Size: 100 gallons
Temperature: 75-82F
Diet: Carnivore
Level of care: Easy
General Notes: This fish comes from Tanganyika, one of the great rift lakes in Africa. It is a deep water fish typically found 75 to 200ft below the surface. There is a number of differant varients, ex. Bmundi, Mpimbwie and the very rare Ziare Blue. This fish is typicaly expensive, because of the great amount of difficulty one encounters extracting it from the lake. There is a great deal of political problems in the areas these fish are found. Mainly the Ziare varient, not to mention the great depths they have to be harvested from. They grow quite large (males up to 18inches). So it is highly recomended that these fish be put into a tank no smaller than 55 gals (120 gal plus is best if you want a colony).

Pros: Great background about the fish
Cons: Did not say what they usually eat

I have one of these fish and when i put him in the tank he was very shy. I paid about $50 for him.
