Bettas are a lot of fun...I think every aquarist should have at least one  Keeping them in a cup is just not right...give them some room to swim in! Be careful about not feeding them too much, feed them lots of interesting things but if you spoil them too much they\'ll stop eating their normal pellet food.

Bettas are a great companion fish. Perfect for a small desk tank. They love to interact with thier people. They are beautiful!! Thier flaring displays are fun to watch. There are many different tail types...tho the most common is the veil-tail found in most petstores. Though they are often labled as \'community fish\', they really prefer to live alone in a smaller (2g and larger) tank, with non-swimming tankmates (i.e. shrimp or snails).

I have two male bettas, each with two females (separate tanks). They mix well with the community fish who share their tanks. One menage a trois shares a tank with 3 dwarf otocinclus and 7 harlequin rasboras. The other menage a trois share a huge tank with many small fish of the various tetra families. (one minxy little tetra sometimes nips the male\'s tail fins otherwise all is peaceful). The bettas are a joy to watch, always busy round their tanks. They are intelligent and responsive to me. I would recommend them to anyone and would not be without mine.

This fish are just wonderful! Great to look at - great to keep with other fish too such as tetras and danios! They also love the company of snails! Always moving about, doing as they please! Excellent fishes!

Bettas make a great first fish and are easy to care for. I keep mine in a half filled 10 gallon but they only need a 1 or 2 gallon. Since no filter is needed u can save alot of money on this fish. African Dwarf Frogs can go in with this fish if theres enough space, since frogs dont need a filter either. Make sure the Betta isnt attacking the frog and they should get along just fine.

betta\'s are the best fish, well at least I think so. I also keep livebearers (mollies, platies, swordtails) & have also kept goldfish (various types). but i have to say i luv my fighters the most. as for tail types, i like the crowntail.

I have a female betta named Sexy Girl in my Asian tank right now and she has been just swell. At first she hid behind the rocks and wouldn\'t come out because Ralph Kramden, my three spot gourami who is basically like the Don of my tank wouldn\'t stop chasing her around. But then a few days later she was out and about without a care, showing her gorgeous fins and her interesting way of resting on the plants. A great addition to any community or Asian tank. The only thing I would caution people about is in regards to male bettas in a tank with a power filter. Often their fins can get them stuck if the flow is too strong. This happened to me a few years ago and I ended up losing my fish to infection from his injuries.
Update - Sexy Girl is still as sassy as ever, and we have two new girls here now. The first is a purpley one that we just somehow started referring to as "Girlfriend," so that's her name. I bought her at the LFS because she had ich and I wanted to get her healthy. After a month or so in a bowl with light ich treatment she was ready to go into my community tank where she promptly staked claim to some territory, and looks adorable chasing away the inquisitive cherry barb. And this past week we purchased Yellow Gal. She's pretty darn awesome and I can't wait to get her out of QT and into my Asian tank.
My point? I think I prefer the females. It's sad that no one ever really gives them a chance. They just have more sass and seem to be much hardier than the males. Plus that myth about them being drab and boring needs to be debunked. Once they're settled in and have good water conditions, they start to display beautiful amounts of color and personality. My girls are hotter than spiced peppers.
I mean if I was a male betta...

I pay anywhere from 1.50 to 50 bucks online for bettas o_o rarly will I buy 50 dollars for a male. But I love them alot. I've loved them since I was like.. 8 years old but I was never alowed to get them, I moved a year ago to a new house and I started with them insted of other fish.. I suggest anybody with a aquarium of fish who wouldint mind a Betta, should get at least two.. I would love to find females for 5 bucks though so it's hard to find a mate for my fishies.
many people consider them heartless creatures.. But when you take care of them you truly learn about bettas. Who they like depends on the betta itself. And many times it's alot like us. And people always say that if they get sick just buy a new one. But paying more then the amount of the Betta just so he could live for his max of 10 years. Is well worth the effort for all they can do. Mine even only perform on Q, but I know my bettas LOVE tricks, and people always feed live but that can make a betta sick, so only every once in awhile is okay. Like a cat to Milk! lol.
There the only fish I will never live without. And as long as you have the nessasary tools and meds. Ya never have to worrie about something happening that you cant fix inless dropsy rolls about. But it's a VERY rare genetic deth timebomb. Most likly one out of twenty Bettas will get it. But inless you have 40+ you dont have to worry about it for alot of bettas. They really love friends and Tetras like Neons and Coins are there favorite friends no matter what the dissposision it seems.
A bowl full of fun! thats for sure!. And the females are just as beautiful if you know what your looking for.

These are excellent begginer fish. I would say u would need at least a 5 gallon. DO NOT KEEP THEM IN BOWLS!!!! Male bettas usually males can't have a variety of tankmates, but some females can be with tons of fish! I love that there all different.
Highly Reccomended for begginers!

I researched awhile before I got my betta, which is a good thing. I almost got a male because I knew you could mix them with other fish, but you have to be extremely careful about fin nippers, and fish that appear similar in appearance to the betta. So, I ended up with a female - named her Iris.
Iris is just as brightly colored as some males, usually she's a bright blue, purple mix. She has a lot of character, she definately knows when I'm in the room and usually swims right over, if I haven't seen her for awhile I can tell because she'll hide for awhile. A bit of a vindictive fish.
Her tank mates include five zebra danios, six neon tetras, one apple snail, and two corys. The zebra danios, and corys were in before her and she seems to let them be. When the neons were newly introduced to the tank she was a bit of a fin nipper herself, but she has cooled down unless they try to take her food. Usually the schooling fish stick together and she busies herself about the tank and doesn't mingle much.
The biggest problem I have run into is that she's too busy attemping to chase the other fish away from the food that she doesn't really get any herself. I just make sure I put some food where she's going to make sure Iris eats. Most of the fish just ignore her, so if you want a betta for a community tank I suggest a female rather than a male. They can be just as pretty and have as much personality as their male counterparts. She is definately one of my favorite fish!

i kept bettas when i was growing up. and i had a few awhile back. i had 2 males and a couple females. k kept my males side by side for awhile and they would ignore one another.
so eventually i was curious and put a divider in a tank with a male on each side and a female with one of them. my males once more ignored one another. so eventually i removed the divider and by then my female was breeding, and my males didnt fight at all. sometimes they would stare off but never fought. im sure i was just very very lucky but i thought it interesting.

These fish are great. I preer the females though. They seem to get along better with other fish than the males. The ones i have (one male, one female)
actually are ine together. The male will wrap itsel around hr all the time and doesnt touch her they love eachother.

Hi Friends
I have a question. I read all these reviews and found Bettas are kept well in a community tank with all kinds of fishes (Barbs, Danios, Mollies, Platies, Gouramis, Goldfish, Sharks etc.). But did anyone kept a Betta with Guppys ever? In my community Tank, I have mollies, Platys, Guppies and Rainbow Shark. Can I try for a crowntail Betta which I liked very much in a LFS?
