kuhliiloach

Description: Compatibility: Like to have several of its own kind in a tank, peaceful community fish.
Maximum Size: 4-5 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 10g
Temperature: 77-85F
Diet: Will eat a variety of foods from flake to frozen, not a picky eater.
Level of care: easy
General Notes: A soft bottom covered with sand or gravel. Prefers plenty of vegetation and hiding room between rocks. May uproot plants that aren't solidly placed in the substrate, as they love to dig. Subdued lighting is reccomended as they are mainly noctournal fish. Be sure to have a tight fitting lid as they can be escape artists.

Pros: very active fish, fun to watch, helps clean the bottom of the tank
Cons: none at all

Very enjoyable fish to watch when in groups. Cannot have too many rocks and small tight-fitting caves for them as they like to feel secure.

Pros: Fun to watch, clean up crew.
Cons: Kinda looks like a snake.

Wonderful loach, it has been said they do better with companions, but my one is very active by himself, and seems to play hid and seek among the plants. Just a great bottom fish for community tanks.

Pros: Great clean up crew
Cons: Very nocturnal

Love these little guys, I only wish I could see more of them as they spend most of thier time hiding in the rocks and plants. Very efficient clean up crew though.

Pros:
Cons:

I have kept three distinct species of Kuhli loaches and this is one of my most beloved fish. It is native to South East Asia where I was born and has the endearing appearance of a miniature sea snake. The contrasting black and yellow markings are quite striking. They are really shy and love to hide beneath rocks and driftwood in a shoal during the daytime but will hunt during nocturnal hours. They most aggressive Loach species is the deep Black variety. My favorite is the large Myer\'s Kuhli with a pitch black body and bery narrow vertical gold stripes. The regular kuhli has a brown body with assymetrical yellow striping and spots.

Pros: Small, cute worm-like apearance
Cons: None :)

Actually, we experimentally determined that they prefer rocky gravel substrate over sand. They are a lot of fun to watch, they have cute little faces. The black ones seem less shy and more active. They seem to get along with any fish... they ignore other fish. Unlike most loaches, they can be kept in a smaller tank. They are social fish, so although they can be kept alone, they will prefer company.
I\'ve never had a problem with attempted escapes, even in an open-top tank.

Pros: Adorable and playful.
Cons: None.

I have kept kuhli loaches for decades and adore this fish. They are very active especially in large groups. They do a great job of keeping the bottom of the tank clean and they love to wiggle through plants. If removing decor or plants from the tank be careful. They hide very well in things.

Pros: cool striped pattern, cleans bottom of tank
Cons: hides a lot

Kuhlii loaches are good at cleaning the bottom of the tank. I rarely see mine because they hide. When I do see them it is fun to watch them swim around the tank.

Pros: Entertaining, Good cleanup fish
Cons: hides most of the time

These loaches are the coolest looking of my three types. They are very active when above ground. They burrow into the gravel and hide through the day. I see them go in one area and come out on the other side... so they are diggers. They leave my other fish alone and the fish leave them alone. They love algae wafers and pellet foods. I only hope to see them grow longer and bigger.

Pros: Unusal looking but cute, fun to watch
Cons: does tend to hide in high light.

Kuhli loaches are an unusual looking fish, their movements are kind of snake like. They tend to keep to the bottom of the tank, but do sometimes swim around. They are very playful and fun to watch. Mine sometimes climb plants or drape the selves over plants higher up in the tank to they can hang out and watch the other fish go by. They also seem to like the company of other kuhli loaches. Overall a good fish.
