Acei Cichlid
![]() |
The Pseudotropheus Acei Cichlid is originally from the Northwestern coast of Lake Malawi. Lake Malawi is from the Bandawe Point to Ngara in Zambia, Africa. The Acei Cichlid have a long slender blue body with striking yellow fins. The difference between males and females are not very noticeable except for a small detail that males bear egg spots on the back edge of their anal fin.
Acei Cichlids prefer a large aquarium with alot of caves and hiding places to mimick their natural habitat. Caves can be created from different items such as limestone, any inert rocks or even African diftwood. An aragonite-based substrate is recommended for your tank. This substrate will help you maintain the proper PH and alkalinity levels.
Acei Cichlids prefer low-lighting so take in consideration your tank setup and tank mates. You can help reduce additional glare by mixing your substrate with a darker gravel.
If you are interested in spawning the Acei Cichlids, you should keep a male with at least three females. If you provide the proper setup, the female will spawn on a flat rock and will take unfertilized eggs into her mouth. Then she will closely follow the male until he releases the sperm to fertilize the eggs. The female will then incubate the eggs for 3 weeks before releasing the frys. These new frys can be fed newly hatched brine shrimps, daphnia, or crushed flake food.
The Acei Cichlid feeds on the sediment covered rocks and wood in nature and is an omnivore. A balanced diet of meaty flakes, pellets, frozen food and dried seawood will help insure your Acei Cichlid stays healthy.
