Post SKILTER question and more goodies!

hey everyone,

i just setup my 10gallon saltwater tank yesterday. but first..my question..

does anyone know the dimensions of a skilter (model #250)?

i would like to see if i can somehow add it to my eclipse system. i would ofcourse have to cut off parts of the eclipse to make the skilter fit..but if u can tell me what the dimensions are...i can see if it's do-able or not.

but anyways. my 10gallon. there is about 15pounds of aragonite sand (2-3inches) and 3 pounds of live rock. i'll be getting more this weekend for about 8-10 pounds. only filtration is my eclipse filter running empty (no sponge, no biowheel).

thought i would get the skilter to maintain high water quality.

thanks!

Ok. I work at my LFS, we do not carry skilters. No ones quite sure what a skilter does, but filter is not it. Go for a protein skimmer. The Red Sea Prizm is affordable, its about 3" deep and fits on a 10.

You should be able to mod your eclipse with a hacksaw, take out some of the plastic at the back to make it fit. Next time your at your lfs, measure one. Just in case.

Skilter is what us silly USA people call a protien skimmer sometimes.Usually it is like the tetra model that has a protien chamber, then the water passes through a carbon/floss catridge and out. So it does both. But the prism is sometime called a skilter too around here.

The all-in-one is not as good as a protien skimmer only units.

I thought the only thing they called a skilter were the two skilters, the 250 and 400. All ive heard is that they are junk.

Post Re: SKILTER question and more goodies!

Hey Guys,

My first reef tank was 15g and I used a Skilter 250.
It did a pretty good job. Eventualy I modified it (because that's what I do, ;D I can't help it.) : I added an air stone, also a drain hose to the collection cup. If I had it to do all over again, I think I would buy another one.

Sorry Matt, not quite big enough for a 90G. But thanks for the offer.
