Post lighting for refugium?

here's my setup again...

http://www.myfishtank.net/images/mytank/setupdesign.jpg

so my refugium is 14x14x18 and i was wondering what kind of lighting i should use. i've read about the homedepot one..the 65watts one for 34dollars. but then i found this light from premiumaquatics...

http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PA&Prod uct_Code=JALLI13

and if u can't get to it..this is what it says..

"Jalli 12" Strip Hood. Includes a 13watt white compact bulb. Has a on/off switch on cord. This little hood is great for little mini tanks, Eco-system and CPR Refugiums, etc.

Dimensions: 11 1/4 long x 4 3/8 wide x 2 1/2 tall "

so which one would be better? since my refugium will have a cover on it..should i cut a hole just enough for the light to be placed on top of the cover? or just place it on top of it. will it melt the acrylic?

i'm looking to grow some macroalgae and/or tang heaven if possible.

thanks..back to more research.

Hey only 13 watts?  You think that will be enough?  I use a LOA 65 W power compact for $25 at Home Depot/Walmart.  It has it's own reflector and also has a clear casing.  I just set it on the top of my refugium with a glass cover.
I am not sure about the acrylic thing but the LOA lights do have a cover which you can place on the acrylic.  These lights are very bright white and is actually a flood light.  LOA model 9266 which is in the 6500K range.
Well if you are looking for only 13 watts, how about something cheaper in CA.  You can just set it on the cover since it's only13 watts.

It's only $14.99.  You can buy two of these if you must.  I have seen these retrofit ones from reefers who just place it on their cover.

The refugium is like a planted tank, you need adequate light for faster growth.

cool. so you use one of the HD ones. that's what i decided to get. i think i'll mount it on something instead of directly putting it on the cover. or do u think it's better if i cut a hole in the cover and place it thro there.

do you have any pictures of your setup? i'm really interested in looking at other people's setups.

merry xmas!
