Default My 65...Look OK?

Hello,

Well, we are in day 3 with fish in our new 65 gallon tank. Everything has gone really well, not bad for a newbie!

The tank, as mentioned, is a 65 gallon tank. It is equiped with the following:

Aqua-Tech 30-60 Power Filter
Under Gravel Filter
Aqua-Tech 170 Power Head
Whisper 20-60 Air Pump
Whisper 30-60 Submersible Heater

I want to upgrade the filter, especially, as soon as I can, but need to recover from the initial investments first! We have a used 20 gallon set up ready for emergencies.

We started the tank with a fishless cycle. Everything went well and thank you all for your experience with this and posting it here.

So far, we have one each:

Earth Eater
Gold Severum
Salvini
Kissing Gourami

There is also, temporarily, 6 small danio's to keep the Cichlids occupied...but they act like they don't even notice the smaller fish. I want to add a Blue-Eyed Cichlid in the next couple of weeks.

Anyway, here's a picture of it. Does it look OK?

Really nice tank. I like the larger gravel in the bottom as opposed to the normal aquarium gravel. You have a very nice natural look going on except for one thing. The plant pot. It does look out of place with the rest of the wonderful arangment. A cave is great to have, and while the pot does the job, I think that if you made one out of larger rocks it would really blend in, and stand out at the same time. Just my opinion, but as is, it is still a wonderful setup.

Looks nice, but I agree with Orion about the pot. Just today when i did my waterchanges and re-arranged my tank i took a pot just like yours and buried it to make a cave. So if you'd like try putting the pot half way under and covering it in the rocks to make it look more natural. Looks good.

looks good

to keep on the pot theme, how about halfway burying it and let java moss take it over

Thanks for the comments and suggestions!

I like the idea of having the moss grow over the pot. I have read that it will grow pretty fast...we'll see

Anyway, I am already addicted to the hobby. It has been a whole lot of fun researching, getting the equipment and supplies, setting it all up...then, finally getting fish!

Thanks again!

is it the water or the camera, the water appears a little discoloured. And as always i recommend slightly slopin the gravel upwards. but looks great overall

Hey Jawz,

Actually, it is the photographer

The water is actually very clear, and it is a good camera, so it must be me! I tried to downsize the image before posting and I lost a lot of quality. I do have the rocks sloping down towards the front, but it is hard to see in the photo.

I can sit and stare into the tank for an hour and not even know it!

Thanks

I know I'm the only one, but I like the pot! Although when I think of Orions suggestion of making a cave out of larger rocks, that may look even better =)

Not real sure how it would look, but like others have said, bury the pot about halfway, and then build up around the sides with the gravel you already have in there, with mabey some larger rocks here and there. I really like the idea on the java moss growing on the pot.

I know what you mean when you say you can sit and stare at it for hours! A couple of months ago I moved to a 20 gallon plant tank from my 10, and was just planing on keeping the 10 as an 'garbage' tank for other plants that were trimed, but I just love to still sit infront of the 10 and just look at it, so I guess its not just a garbage tank after all! LOL (well, I sit in the floor and look at it when the dog or cat are not attacking me;or each other and they decide that I should be the ref)

Wonderful job over all tho. I wish my first setup looked as good as yours does. Keep it up!
