It's not that adding RO water would lower the KH of my water, but it would not increase it, which seems to be happening due to evaporation being topped off with my hard tap water. Thanks for appreciating the beauty of it, even if it is a bit contrived.

I decided to do a little water change today, I posted the details in another thread:
I did a right-handed water change!

It was out of cheapness and not necessity. Tap water has free trace elements.

Your tank is amazing...beautiful and full of life! Hillstream loaches are really cool looking fish =D.

Your tank is inspiring, I may try out your method...but to a lesser degree. I am interested in increasing the amount of plants I have, to decrease the amount of water changes I do. If I had to do less water changes...perhaps I could add another tank to the mix.

In any case, your thread has generated interesting comments that have educated me on water changes and water chemistry =D.

Here are some updated pics of the tank with the new light that gives it a blue-ish tint. Note hos the CO2 bubbles all look blue in this light. I have gotten used to the new light, and just may leave it in there although it is a 18000K bulb.

I just have the hose going into the venturi plug on my powerhead. The powerhead breaks up the bubbles and blasts them through the tank. I could take a picture of the powerhead, but it would be a really uneventful shot.

So to get you the full effect I took a short 1MB video clip of it. I'm about maxed out on my webspace, so I'll just leave this clip up for a couple days, then it'll be gone.

wonderful thanks! i hooked up one of my co2 outputs to the intake of my extra filter, and the impeller completely disolves it.
Question about the co2, if you want more co2, do you put more yeast? and more sugar if you want it to last longer?

yeast generally makes the output higher, and sugar makes the jug last longer. Unfortunately Fleischmann's Baker's Yeast cannot survive in the presence of alcholo, and as the fermentation progresses, alcohol levels in the jug rises. I think the alcohol is what makes it stop producing CO2, because I have mixed up jugs with tons of sugar and yeast, and it still only lasted about 2.5 weeks max. ALso fresher yeast works better than not so fresh yeast
