| New 100g CA Cichlid Preface:
This tank is a work in progress (aren't everyone's?), and I will use this thread to show the progress; consider it a journal. You will get to see my problems & achievements with this tank. I will try to include as much info as possible, along with multiple progressive photos, so it could get graphic intensive. I do enjoy receiving feedback, good or bad, so post away! Tell me what you think needs to go where and what I should add or get rid of! The photos are in .png format (I'm using Macromedia Fireworks to edit them. No changes to color have been made).
One day after setup:
3/30/05

- Hagen 802 powerhead w/ quickfilter attachment
- Eheim 2026 Pro II cannister
- 2-250w Ebo Jager heaters (removed for summer)
- Flourite w/ pool filter gravel (80/20 mix)
- Pressurized CO2
- Background provided by Hefty
 Nutrients- Seachem Flourish
- Seachem Iron (occasionally)
- KNO3 (Green Light Tree Stump Remover)
- 'Super Phosphate' powder
Fish- 1 Green Terror
- 1 Midas cichlid
- 3 Green Severums
- 4 Clown Loach
- 1 Pleco (regular)
Plants- Echinodorus bleheri
- Echinodorus barthii
- Echinodorus 'Oriental'
- Echinodorus uruguayensis
- Cryptocoryne wendtii 'brown'
- Cryptocoryne lutea
- Vallisneria americana
- Microsorum pteropus
- Anubias barteri v. nana
- Anubias barteri
- Hygrophila corymbosa 'siamensis'
- Sagittaria subulata
Future Plans:
Hmmm...foreground plants? Yes indeed! What do you think: hairgrass or tenellus? As soon as I can get some Sag. subulata grown out, I'd like to add that as well. Maybe some moss too. Also, I'm getting ready to purchase some fairly rare sword plants (sunset, kleiner bar, & horizontalis) as soon as I can find some balance in the tank. Sometime next month, I'm going to propogate my anubias nana's & spread them out some more; they're getting thick! Speaking of anubias, I want some coffeefolias! Other comments:
OMG! Is that BBA on the d-wood? Yes it is However, it is dying, and my plecos are tearing it up! I don't think they're eating it, but they are dang sure getting the wood clean! My GT does not harrass anyone except me when I walk up, but my severums like to pick on each other.

| Looking good but what huh, the thermometer? Whats that doing there
Looks like youve got plenty of foreground space to play around with. It'll be nice to see how the tank grows in once youve got a foreground plant put in. Also some moss might look good were the driftwood is recovering on the left side. And i say chop the sword plantlet and plant it. Looking good overall.

That E. uraguayensis is a biiiig plant, and should look great in there I'd go for hairgrass, I think the very thin leaves will set off the "largeness" of the rest of the tank. Hefty looks a little saggy in the middle |

| Looks great Avalon. A beautiful balance of fish wood and plants. I love the color of the tank and I think that the rose sword will look amazing there in the middle when it grows. Speaking of which, how tall do those guys get. I have one in my tank now and it puts out new leaves all the time but doesn't grow really tall I probably don't have enough light to get it to grow up?
Anyway beautiful tank. I love it I would defintely suggest dwarf hairgrass. I think lotus hit it on the head. I recently planted some in my tank and it is growing in great. I think with your set-up it would actually go completely nuts.
Anyway I can't wait to see the progression of the tank. Keep us posted!! |

| Thanks guys! You know, I really got the idea for hairgrass just today. I think it would be really nice! So hairgrass it is! I really didn't want to do the tenellus thing again. I agree that there is too much open space! Aaaah!
That rose sword is supposed to get fairly large, but it's yet to do so...so we'll just see how it grows!
And that thermometer...sorry...was tuning heater temps...it's gone now

| What precisely is fish wood... petrified fish?
I like that tank a lot too (except for the thermometer, but that's been tanken care of). Must make for some nice relaxing rooms.
I can't puzzle out what BBA is... anyone care to enlighten me?

| Beautiful tank. I love how the colours contrast, the plants look very healthy. What I like most is the nice big bit of swimming space in the middle. Nice job.
