Talking is there any hardy freshwater fish that swim around in pairs?

i want to get more fish in my 10 gallon... i only have 1 male guppy, 2 guppy fry, and one catfish... i was wondering is there is any freshwater fish that swim together... i love to see fish that do that... i dont want a whole school of fish, just two that will just swim around like buddies

Any type of small tetra will hang out together. Or something like harlequin rasboras, those are nice looking and relativly hardy. You could get a few for your ten gallon.

The catfish will hang together. Gups will hang together somewhat, esp. if the ratio of 1 male to 2 females. The male will hang with the females ... WOW what a revelation.

cory cats are good additions. Just make sure you don't get anything that will eat your fry. Cory's won't

Like said above, cory catfish will swim around like buddies. They are fun to watch, too. If your catfish is a cory, you should get him a friend... they are really social fish.

I agree with the cory! I wouldn't get harlies unless you're going to get at least 4 or 5 of them...they are a schooling fish. They definitely wouldn't bother any of your other fish though...if you decided that a school would be nice.

As for other fish that 'buddy'...usually not a good idea. Most like to be alone or in schools. Ottos will sometimes chill together if you put two of them in a tank, mine did when I had them together

its really hard to get schooling or pairing action in a small tank. I started my little fish in a 10 gallon and never felt like they schooled.... Once I moved to the 16 it made a huge difference.. I now have three groups of fish that hang together.

You might look into getting a pair of cherry barbs. Mine spend quite a bit of time hanging out together.
