Default Bye Bye Bala

Unfortunately, I saw some cute bala and iridescent sharks at Wal-Mart and decided I'd get a fish tank. Having previously kept the same goldfish for over 6 years I felt confident in my fish raising abilities... plus helping my brother with two oscars for many years.

Stupid, stupid, stupid me. I rushed to get the fish without cycling the tank and shouldn't have bought them in the first place without doing research. The bala died this morning, but the id is doing well - now I know that it will get VERY large and I shouldn't have gotten him in the first place, too. I feel like an awful owner and need to start over and try to take better care of the id (keeping in mind where he will live when he begins to outgrow my tank).

Poor bala!

Why does Wal-Mart carry these fish and say that they will only grow to be a few inches in length?? Do they anticipate the owners not taking proper care of them?

sorry for your loss

everyone makes mistakes like this at some time or another.

"Do they anticipate the owners not taking proper care of them?" i think its more a case of them anticipating the fish won't live that long no matter how good a care it is taken of.

walmart is the only store that gives me a hard time walking down the fish isle, and yes, they dont really care what happens to the fish once you buy it. i think the idea they have is the faster the fish dies, the faster youll buy another one.

you can probably take the ID shark to a LFS in your area, and trade it in for credit. then do some more research and get the fish you like(and can fit)

welcome 2 da tank! always good to see a new fish.

Sharkbait WOO HA HA!! j/k
