I'd say low lighting.

I might hold out on the lights until I can afford a 2 x 40w fixture from current usa ($102). Would this be alright?

OR...
I can get the 40w and see hoe I like corals and if I do, then I'll save up and get the 2x40w. I'll then put the single 40w on my other 10 gal.

What would 80w (8wpg) be considered?

The WPG rule is only a guideline and tank height plays a big role, but I would agree that 4wpg is low...though you are also talking about a relatively shallow tank. I have 48w on my 12g nano dx and it is sufficient for mushrooms, zoanthids, star polyps, etc. 80w would be enough to grow a lot of different things...I would wait and save

Thanks camaro. Your right about the different lights. Also, thanks for transferring the thread to nano saltwater.

So, here are a list of different items and costs for the tank:
1- 9lbs-10lbs of live rock ($40)
2-maxi jet power head ($15)
3- dry sand or crushed coral ($12)
4- Heater ($20)
5-salt ($10)
6-hydrometer(?) ($8)
7-uhhh...lights ($102)
8- high range ph test kit ($4)
9-food (I have some)
10- a hood[glass] (do I really need one?)

Please feel free to add anything especialy comment. I need all the help I can get.
Thanks

My mom took a look through the list and thought that the 2 40w's are going to cost alot just to run. Overall, how much does lighting itself add to your electric bill?
Does a 40w bulb really use 40w or thats just the output of the bulb?

You don't NEED glass hood, just find some way to mount the lights over the tank. If you have fish chances of them jumping out are high. But you can put something like a veil material or a netting material across the top to still let light through but keep the fish in.

Truthfully i don't pay attention to the lights on the electric bill, running a so much lighting over my tanks makes me not want to know.

I doubt you will see much of a difference...maybe $10 a month at the most.
