I had the same concern Lori. I fought with it while the rock was curing. The end solution wasn't as hard as it seemed. I wanted to see how warm the tank could get with the MH's on. I ran the tank without lights with my heater set to 75, the temp read 75.5-76 for three days with no light. I then turned on the MH's and let them run for 10 hours (which is how long I would keep them on for). The temp rose to 81-82. I set my heater to 79 so the temp read 79.5-80 with the lights off for the next two days. I then turned on the lights temps rose to 81-82.

I ran the tank like that with a 2 degree shift in temp from sun up to sun down. Not bad at all. I wanted more consistency so I started aiming my fan at the tank which has a built in thermostat. When the ambient room temp rises over 73 the fan turns on, when it reaches 71 it turns off. Since doing that my temps dont move from 79.5-.7. I have seen more evaporation in the tank since the fan but nothing major.

All in all its not that big a deal. You can get clip on fans from walmart or there are lots of stores online which offer great clip on fans which clip on the back of the tank and help expel the heat. Cheap alternative to my fan which cost me around 80 bucks. But that was when I needed a fan for me not for the tank. I just used it cause I have it sitting there anyway.

well, here is what I ended up with. Got a 24g nano cube (tank only), bought an Orbit 2x40w PC. I won't be able to keep high light corals, but most things will be fine. I will see how it does for a time, at least through summer, then maybe upgrade to MH 150w. Your tank looks great! I can't wait to get my larger one up and going. My 12g is getting smaller it seems. Thanks for the info.

shift 9k,

Where did you buy your tank for $330?
I've done sone searching online, and for that 24gall tank w/110w MH the best prices I can find is $369-$379...or did you buy the tank alone, and the 110w MH alone?

Just wondering where the best place to buy tanks online is?
I'm looking at 70 gallon + tanks as well, for a trigger tank, anyone know of the best places online to buy tanks? Or where the best place PERIOD to buy tanks?

Hey tiger you have PM.

I got the tank from DFS. Awesome place to order from. They are the most helpful people I have ever bought anything from. Shipping is cheap and their customer service is excellent. I just checked their site for prices on the 24g Aquapod with 150hqi and they have gone up! Surprising. I'll look around also I know there is another site that comes close to DFS pricing. I'll let you know.

As far as updates my bad. I've had mid terms then right after that I had to start studying for my finals. Med School sucks!

I did get a neon green trump coral. I sold the firefish, and the bangaii Cardinal only lasted two days. I think he might have been too small. I do have some cash on hand so i'll be going huntin this weekend. I'll post pics. The two little buddies are still doing awesome showing more color. I'll get pics up!

Very nice looking tank, you should definitely update with new pics!

Also, what is that cute white fish with the red tail? I've never seen one of those before (though I don't know much about SW).

The white one with the red tail is a firefish.
