why would you want to lower it? 8.0 is low for a sw tank

if you are dumb (your words not mine) i would really reccomend getting a couple good books

CO2 injection is really the only safe means of lowering your ph and this is only necessary when using live plants. I can't remember who said but someone the other day replied to a ph question by stating if you lived in the desert and then moved to Florida you would be uncomfortable because of the humidity. But if you stayed awhile eventually you would acclimatise to your surroundings. Remember that most fish are tank reared and not wild specimins so they can usually adapt you your water parameters as long as the extremes are avoided. Remember one of the easiest ways to stress out fish is to start tinkering with your ph.

Generally you want your PH to be between 7.8-8.4 I would not go any highter than that.

Actually the real answer to this question is that if you're still asking questions like this you're not ready to put fish in yet (though you aren't anyway). All the beginner threads have the same lists of reading recommended and I'd suggest you spend a couple of weeks reading those books, especially the Paletta book so you get a better grip of what's going on before you put a fish in.
You need a lot of patience for this my friend. You also need to realise that you will never get a complete picture of what to do by just using the web - you need to use it in combination with paper media

yes, i 2nd the above. You canr just become a parent without naming the kid. You dont want to get ur fish and have them die, not to say that u couldnt run a sw tank, its just very complicated and time consuming. I read 2 books (great) and all about SW online before i even purchased the tank. Its jsut a better idea to know what your getting into, instead of rushing it too much....but yeah, as weve said "DONT MESS WITH THE pH, ITS FINE!!!"
