Ha ha I just noticed a baby snail in my betta tank this morning. I don't have any snails--or I didn't. Sometimes eggs can hitchhike in on plants.., It takes 2-4 weeks or so for snail eggs to hatch. So, you did add plants about a month ago?

By the way--It is much easier to maintain a 55 gallon tank than a 5 gallon tank. And you can have 55 little water critters with no over crowding.

Looks alright to me. Here's a pic of a bloated betta for comparison.

Your tank is still over-crowded. A good rule of thumb is 1 inch of fish (or frog or other water animal) per gallon. You need a bigger tank, or another one :)
