wow some people just don' understand. I was getting some cherry barbs in Petco and one of the employees was trying to tell these people that she couldn't sell them a fish. They were buying a four gallon tank and wanted a goldfish that same day. The worker explained about cycling so the people said they would keep it in the bag until then. It was hilarious to hear these people try and persuade her. I feel bad for you guys who have to deal with stuff like that.

"I already have an oscar but it's not big cause I have him in a ten gallon."

People think that just because they have kept fish before that they know best....

I don't usually pay much attention to what the fish store people tell me as I've been misadvised so many times years ago. But I will have to give this Petco employee credit...(if he kept his job)...

A customer came in and picked out: a red wag platy, a silver balloon molly, and an Electric Blue Cichlid. They wanted to put these three fish together into a fish bowl (!!???!!!!) to be a centerpiece on a table at a 4th of July picnic (red, white, & blue, I guess...).

The employee told them the bowl was a bad idea for any one of the fish and that the cichlid could not live with the other two (as it would eat them).

The customer threw a fit, went and got a manager, who obediently bagged up the three fish, giving the guy a 10% discount for the 'trouble' caused by the employee. I'm sure the poor guy got fired....

thats ridiculous !
and your probly right ,the poor guy probly got fired.
the problem is the fish place will get somebody good ( like unwritten ) that knows about fishkeeping, and cares for the fish, but all the company cares about is dollars and cents. Dont get me wrong i know how business works but you cant always think about the bottom line. Ontop of all this you have these big companies driving out the Mom and Pop stores. im gonna stop right there because im gonna start RANTING in a minute ! lol

Petco is allowed to deny people fish if they think they are going to kill them but it rarely happens. Usually I can convince people otherwise. I don't know why the employee didn't just suggest other red/white/blue fisih.... blue platy, red platy, white skirt tetra. They wont live long but better that what was wanted before.

I think mom and pop stored by me are even worse cause they are being driven out by petco and will really do anything to make a sell... from what I experience atleast. What's best is a larger specialized aquarium store.

"I have a 55 gallon aquarium with guppies and haven't done a water change in over a year. I don't believe in water changes and what you are telling me about nitrate and phosphate build up. I do have an algae problem but I don't think that has anything to do with the fact I don't change my water. I've been keeping fish since I was 16 and I'm 55 now so I know more than you. Everytime I do a water change my fish die so I stopped...."

******* ridiculous some people.
