Sea kittens... fish. All fish, it seems, when you read the fine print of the petition to the US Fish and Wildlife Service they want you to sign below:

Take Action: Ask the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to Stop Promoting the Hunting of Sea Kittens

If I didn't know PETA, I'd give them credit for cooking up a wicked satire.

They're trying to hide the reality of what they want people to sign by dumbing down and Noggin'ing (hiding their real motive behind cartoons and pre-school imagery) up their message, as if "sea kittens" were some form of endangered species. Hence the whole "sea kittens" thing.

I guess that's what they're doing, but who knows with peta. The whole thing is beyond stupid.

Is this the "for kids" page of their campaign to ban fishing by the wildlife department? Or is it their entire campaign?

They would have reached more people by having a girl strip naked again, as they've done in the past, to promote their radical agenda.

EDIT: By Noggin'ing I was not implying that Noggin has a hidden agenda, in any way, shape, or form... I recently was introduced to the network via my toddler son. Was just making up a word to describe the cartoonish and preschool nature of peta's whole "sea kitten" thing.

Allllright... how do I start a petition for the disbandment (<- is that even a word?) of PETA?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for sustainable fishing. All for barbless hooks, catch and release, proper monitoring and oversight because I DO think these things are not being properly taken care of in some cases... BUT COME ON?!? Sea Kittens?!?! That has got to be one of the biggest farces I've ever seen...

As KB so eloquently put it the other day... (palm-face) throw in a shake of the head for good measure.

Chris

Oh, and I do think a complete ban is unreasonable.

I do believe it's "facepalm."

As for the sea-kittens, I read the post and didn't even respond because I was like, "Am I missing something?" Seriously, if I would be some little kid, I would really believe that "sea-kittens" exist.

Good Grief Peta is a weird organization. I'm one of the biggest animal lovers out there, but they are so extremist even I can't stomach them.

How funny that you posted a PETA thread...I was almost going to do that earlier today cos I was reading how they are on a witch hunt now against Iam's Pet Foods.

IamsCruelty.com

I admit, I'm not going to buy Iam's anymore because of it. I don't normally buy Iam's, but that is the only higher-quality canned kitten food I can get at my local supermarket when I don't feel like driving across town to get Hills Science Diet from Petco.

EDIT: Even if this story about Iam's is true, PETA tries to promote a vegan diet for cats and dogs. This is so ridiculous...dogs are omnivores and cats are carnivores...they need meat in their diet to survive. That's one of the many things that irritates me about Peta. Go after the human population all you want and try to veganize the world, but cats and dogs need to eat meat, it's the way the good Lord designed them! GRRRRRRRRR. And this coming from an animal right's group! They should know & promote what is right for animals diets for a healthy life.

Sea kitten = fish...seriously? Come on! Who comes up with this stuff? Anyone who falls for this needs a psychiatrist, not a petition form (much less internet access).

Wow... if my kids started calling fish 'sea kittens', I wouldn't be able to show my face for the embarrassment of it. A rose by any other name, and all that....

Plus, it bothers me that they're trying to sell the idea that all fish are adorable, like kittens. Of course not. Interesting, yes, and often unique, but there are plenty of fish we just wouldn't want to cuddle and pet, and pretending differently is stupid.

Plus, is it necessary for them to posit that animals must be adorable to be worth taking an interest in their welfare? I hope my children never think like that! Children are not stupid and PETA should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for talking down to children like that. This is wrong on so many levels that I could go on and on for paragraph after paragraph, but I will spare you.
