Default Positions open at Petco, should I apply?

Well I just found out that the Petco I frequent is hiring!

Sales associate, team leader, operations manager, animal companion specialist....

I have a liberal arts bachelors, with little managent experience, but I think I'm going to go in and try my luck anyway!

Have you guys had any experience working there? What do you think?

I think you should do it. Lord knows you will know more than most of them and would be more helpful to newbies. plus, you will probably get a discount on food and supplies.

Yeah from the looks of it most of the floor staff are high-schoolers, etc. Yesterday, I bought two oto's... and 1. I had to find them for her in the tank and 2. I had to tell her what they did (clean algae). She was really nice though!

Half of their fish aren't even for sale at the moment because of an ICH outbreak.

I've been trying other avenues in a job search since I graduated, but **** it's hard getting into govt (that's pretty obvious though haha) . Career-wise maybe I want to do what I enjoy... by taking care of animals. I've always loved animals. And well, if not, I can just work at Petco to pay myself through grad school.

I just pray they will look at my college degree, and clerical experience and think, hmm manager.

yo have to tell them how yo would make the store more money and how yo would make sales better.
they dont care about yo knowledge about fish or other animals.
just be very confident in yo self and wha yo can bring to the store.

Most chain stores have a very "corporate" view on pet-keeping. I.E. they may dictate you to make moves that you might not feel comfortable with....becasue that is "company policy". I dont mean to be the voice of doom, I just wanted to give you some insight

meant you...
and while they care about thier profits, they pay very little for animals and most chains like petsmart and petco couldnt care a less. read what she said...its very true.
with any pet store a person should be prepared to deal with the greedy owners who couldnt care a less about the pets. hint why petsmart has so many products and not many animals...also why they wont ever do expensive fish or saltwater. to much money would be wasted.

government jobs are hard to come by right now. the FBI wants you to have at least 2 years of experience before you apply, and if you don't have a masters degree or are fluent in a needed language, forget the CIA. The economy and the war have put the government in a hiring freeze.
