The dark spot on the underside of the female will get larger and the underside will swell. When it looks like they are about to "pop", get yourself a V-trap breeding tank that floats or can be stuck with suction cups onto the inside of the tank. Get one that allows tank water to flow through. They aren't that expensive. Put a little bit of plant into it. Feed the female as you usually do. When the fry are born, they will fall through the V into the bottom of the breeding tank. When the female is done, return her to the tank, remove the V, leave the plant, and the fry will grow nicely in the breeding tank for awhile. It is easier to feed them that way as well. They love brine shrimp, or take some yolk of a hardboiled egg, mix it with a little water and put it in the breeding tank. There is also "fry food" you can buy at your LFS. When they get larger, you can put them into the main tank, but make sure you have some grassy plants . . . either floating or rooted where they can hide from the larger fish.
