Default Aggressive Female Guppy???!

Alright...I'm a little confused. Ya'll keep saying that the males bother the females right? I added 2 new males and a new female to my 10 gallon tonight. The female who has been in there for quite awhile then decided that she was going to attack all of the new fish...she was literally going after them and nipping at their fins. SO I scooped her up and put her in a breeding trap in the same tank.

Do you think this is just because she wanted to be the dominant one in the tank and she felt threatened because of the new fish?? She is bigger in size than all of them, though one of the males is almost her size.

How long should I keep her seperated from the other fish? I am NOT going through the fin nipping thing again. I'd rather keep her seperated permanently.

I have a 1 gallon tank I can put her in...but will she get lonely? I'm pretty sure she's pregnant from when I got her, but I have no way of knowing. Haven't seen her drop any babies.

She was pouting when I first put her in the trap...but now she's swimming back and forth/up and down, I don't particularly want her to stress herself to death.

Comments anyone?

maybe the female just needs to adjust to the new additions - but of course there are always some fish that have an agressive streak in them no matter how 'peaceful' they are meant to be!

I would think she would get lonely by herself but you dont have to add more guppies for that. try adding a bigger livebearer such as a platy or molly so she wont be able to bully them as see if shes agressive to all other fish or just other guppies
