Default Pregnant Platy Question

ok, here goes, I have 7 various platy's, all female (no I have not updated my tank info in a while, lol) My female blue mickey mouse I'm pretty sure is pregnant. Up until yesterday she was "blowing up" and she had/has the black spot just behind her belly. Today her belly is not as big and has "squared" off a bit for lack of a better term..and the last few days she's been hovering near the surface and not eating very much if at all. Is this normal behaviour?? I have not seen any fry in the tank yet, so I don't think she's given birth yet (unless they got eaten, which I hope they did not, and there is plenty of cover in my tank for the baby's to hide. Last month I found 3 fry (1 blue, 2 orange and black) and I removed them any they are doing fine, but it was unexpected. I have never done this before so I don't know what to look for and really not sure what to do??

HELP!!! I wanna save my fry!!!

when they go square it means they are either about to give birth or they just have. when she gets really fat then its time to isolate her if you really wanna save the babies. having her lose in the tank with other fish spells disaster. Her behaviour sound normal too

Thanks for the advise....well I don't know what to think, she's still a little square, but much thinner than she was a few days ago. No baby's that I can see, I put her in the breeder net (she was not happy about that) and no babies there ( I hope they did not get eaten) I do have a few big leafy plants in my tank thought, maybe they are hiding, I'll keep my eyes open. Her black gravid spot (is that right) has shrunk, it's not a big as it was, but I can stll see it. I might get lucky. About a month or so ago I found 3 babies in my tank, 1 blue, 2 orange, so I took them out and put them in their own 2.5 gallon tank and they are doing great!! Gettng bigger already. GOD!!! They are SOOOOO cute!!! I want more, but I don't want to put a male in yet, as I don't really have enough room to put in a larger baby tank (at least not yet). I just figured that if I could get a few babies from existing pregnancies that would be great!!! Now my yellow, black and green platy is looking really fat in the belly ( I hope she's pregnant ) but she's got normal black spots where her gravid spot would be, so I can't see it, so I'm not sure. Plus I have a translucent yellow and white platy who's blowing up, but I cannot see a gravid spot on her yet. I have already checked and I don't think it's dropsy, they just look plump, not like a pinecone. Ohh well, I'll juet keep an eye on them and keep my fingers crossed!!
Thanks again!

sometimes when these livebearers are pregnant they get round in the front including all the details about gravid spots. like guppies, they would not only become round in middle, but also a lil round in the front right below her head

Thanks for the advise, but I don't know what happened?? I came home last night from work, fed them as usual, everything seemed mine, including mommy to be, and when I went to bed a few hours later, mommy was dead??? I don't know what happened. She ate a little, was swimming around, there are no signs of disease or distress, all my other fish are fine, but she died?!?!?!? I don't get it. I didn't think she was sick, none of my other fish seem to be sick. I just don't get it.
Thank you guys for all your help and advise, I still have another platy who's pregnant, so hopefully this time it will go much better.

I hope it will go well too! maybe the dead one had that bloated disease! My guppy had it once and it too, died. it makes it LOOK like its pregnant but then the scales are turned outward and it dies with a GIANT stomach even if it doesnt eat much!

Thank you! I thought about that, but her scales were not sticking out at all. I mean she looked perfectly fine, normal colouring ( a bit pale, but nothing drastic), eating, she was hovering around the heater, near the surface, but that was all. A little abnormal for her...but really nothing that I could see to indicate she was ill at all really. Oh well. My friend says that sometimes if the fish is older, the preganacy can just cause too much stress on the mother and she just dies...I don't know how accurate that is, but I cannot think really of any other explination?? Possible egg-binding?? I know platy's are live-bearers, but can they suffer from something similar to that, where the baby's just get "stuck"??

well, yes. mollies, if their in labour and if shes too stressed, she'll die along with those stuck in her. but thats for mollies. guppies, platies, and swordtails dont really die of labour stress, or what i haven't heard of....my guppy acted just like yours but her fins were out turned. maybe they really do get labour stress....
