Question I may have a Pregnant Platy also, but I'm not sure!

My Platy is a little heavy near the front of her body. Her skin is all orange but there looks as if there is something 'black' inside her orange skin.

Unfortunately, this is the way she was bought so she hasn't changed, therefore I don't know if this is normal or pregnancy.

(I wish I had a digital camera to take a picture, but I don't. )

how long has she looked this way? platies take about 3 weeks to drop but it sounds like she should be very close to doing so. if its been more then 3weeks she may have already given birth and the babies have been eaten. If you think that she hasn't though, try a water change of about 25% to spur on breeding, maybe even lower the pH a little as well. Also have you got anywhere for her to hide and have the babies like a bushy plant or something as this may also be why shes not dropping. Good luck!

Actually, today I began to notice the male starting to chase the female. What does that mean?

well it depends. either he's trying to impregnat her or hes waiting for her to drop so he can impregnat her. if shes starting to look a bit stressed out then remove the male for a while and see if she starts hiding in plants as thats a good sign shes about to have babies. also watch the serpaes as they may give her a hard time if they realise shes about to drop as they will want to eat her babies. if after a week she still hasn't given birth reintoduce the male and start over
