| With all three livebearers, the males have gonopodiums that stick out from the bottom of thier bellies. These just look like little sticks and usually point toward the fish's tail. Usually, it takes about 3 months for me to see the gonopodium on all of my livebearers. Also, the females seem to get wider in the stomach even when they are not pregnant. Check out this website for more info: http://fish.orbust.net/livebearers.html.

| Oh, and for how fast they grow, mine are almost fully grown and they were born in December. So, I 'd say about 4-5 months.

| woops sorry missed the part on that website
"For platies and mollies the only way to tell how far into the pregnancy the fish is, is by seeing how fat they are, platies and mollies which are about to spawn will seem almost square from the back view and will be very swollen in the middle." |

| didn't feel like starting a new thread How big are mollies, normally, when they reach maturity? I have two and, when I asked what gender one was(the store was closing, didn't have time to ask about the other) I was told that he would "grow up to be a male" and he looks to be about an inch in length. The other one is about half the size and I think it's female because I can't find a genopodium(sp?) but I can't be sure since "she" might still be too young to tell. |
