Y'know, when you think about it, given the amount of fish that you will have, that's an excellent deal!

I dunno. I've found that if you give the babies any kind of cover, some of them will find it and thrive.

I have come to believe that this is a MYTH! You should see my 14g planted tank. It's a freakin' jungle in there and I have had no guppy fry in that tank since I put about a 6 guppies (M/F mix) in there about 4 months ago. My male and female bettas have probably helped themselves to a tasty snack.

I dunno. That runs counter to my (admittedly brief) experience thus far. Are you sure that they've produced fry? (I can't imagine they haven't.) Bettas seem kinda slow; if guppy fry are as fast as swordtail fry, they might have a hard time catching them, I would think. Maybe your tanks are too clean. Could it be that any fry simply couldn't find enough to eat?

Ha! Good one. My 55g is the show tank as far as planted tanks go (well, the 10 is nice, too), but the 14g planted tank is far from clean.

When I had my first couple of batches of fry in a breeder tank I would drop one in from time to time to see if they could hide and take care of themselves. Bettas hunted them down and were pretty swift when it came to going in for the kill.

So, the moral of the story is that if bob wants to keep the fry population down to zero, he should invest in some bettas!

And, I was wrong!
