Default Interesting Article...

Freshwater Fish: The endangered hobby

That was pretty surprising when i read it. I though all fw fish were pretty much tank raised cuz it be cheaper than capturing and transporting. The guy is a little harsch but he gets the point across.

link worked for me.thanks for the article jawz.i have always wondered why there wasn't a big push for wild caught fish in the hobby.it's good to see that people do care about where their fish come from

Wow! That was quite shocking to read. I have a red-tailed shark and I look at him in a different light now. I'd read that they were bred in Thailand using hormones, they're notoriously difficult to breed in captivity so to hear that they're extinct in the wild now is terrible news but somewhat understandable - they're so intolerant of their own species!!
Generally I find there is little to no information being offered in the general trade though the internet dealers are more forthcoming BUT they're more informative because they trade in the wild-caughts at a premium price.
Collectors seem to want wild caught Tanganyikans as much for more natural behavioural characteristics as their colours.
Personally, I've never sought wild caughts.
