i was looking around the internet a little while ago and discovered a device that sounds an alarm when ever water paremeters change or get close to potentially dangerous levels.its pretty cheap.and if that would get annoying hereing the beeping when water changes there is also a bypass mode you can turn on that turns off the beeping and will activate a light when paremeters change.

now there is also on that is a little bit expensive that automaticly adds chemicals if need be to fix the water paremeters.it to sounds an alarm to let you know when its adding chemicals.

now my question is would this annoy you or would you buy it.would you recomend it.should i get it.(they have dif sizes for dif tanks)sorry i dont have the link.

Sounds silly to me. If you perform weekly water changes you shouldn't need something to sound an alarm when your water is at dangerous levels. You could probably tell by the gasping fish before the alarm went off.
Water changes, water changes, water changes.
You shouldn't add chemicals to a tank to 'fix' water parameters. Chemicals are bad. You have to fix the cause, not treat the problem.

In other words.............an enormous waste of money.

I agree one hundred percent! Taking care of your fish by performing water changes and keeping the tank in proper living conditions are all part of the fun of keeping fish. It allows you to take pride in the little ecosystem you have created that is life sustaining! If you just want a "trophy tank" without any work then I suggest you pay close attention in school so you can afford to hire someone to take care of your huge built in 1200 gallon saltwater tank when you become an adult!!!! Lol, seriously though, no, I would not buy this item and yes I think it is a huge waste of money!

Please read some of the stickys. Then you may be able to make that decision for yourself. I think you are just overreacting and trying to come up with a quick fix. Well my friend there isnt one all it takes is proper care of the fish and monitoring the water, that is most of the fun. When everything is runnning smooth then you can sit and enjoy your little piece of heaven, until then it is a lot of work and research. It does not happen overnight, or even over weeks it takes months to acheive exactly what you want.

this is what you're talking about right? the octopus 3000? i've used it once, one of our rediculous clients (big $$$) with a 700G reef tank had one in his setup. it served no real purpose. just another (very expensive - $800.00!!!)gadget. the one good thing about it is that you can easily see what the temp, pH, etc are instantly.

for your purposes, it would be a waste of money. just test your water as you always do weekly and keep up with good maitenence practices and you will be fine.

I think it's cool there is such a gadget (EXCEPT the adding chemicals part; as others have stated). Having an instant reading of the parameters (include plant nutrients & then I'm really excited) would be sufficient (if accurate of course) then the fishkeeper could make necessary adjustments. I wouldn't want or need any "beep" or flashing light because I'd be ahead of the those danger levels (as I am now) with water changes.

To be honest I don't like to test my water (I've done so Rarely); I find it difficult to read this shade of yellow, green, or whatever from the next or previous shade of whatever color (I don't believe I'm color blind either, I just think they're just too darn close to each other).
