| The Mightiest Biowheel Has Fallen..... I was working yesterday and was surprised to see my Petsmart got some Emporer filters in cuz they hadnt carried them for over a year or more and then i looked at the prices and i wanted to have them all. Emporer 280 was $30, Emporer 400 was $40, when they usually cost $80 and $100 here in canada. I asked the manager if those prices were right and she said "yes they are a special buy because Marineland isnt making them anymore." Now i havent read any articles that also say this but it could be true and Marineland might be comin out with something flashy in the next year. |

| i went to the marineland site and it didn't mention anything about discontiuing the emperors.your boss was probably confused.brockway trust me the pengiun 330 is a much better filter.to many parts on a emperor to wear out.mine is jimmy rigged together.i hot glued most ot the center diverter unit just so it runs.the only things that can really wear out on a penguin 330 is the motor and the impeller.

| thats good to hear! Its not like I really need the flow control anyways, plus the penguin 330 and 170 barely fit the back of my tank anyways, and I I dunno if the 400 is bigger. |

| CFM I don't understand why you say the 300 is much better. The only extra parts on the 280 and the 400 is the spraybar and related impeller. I have seen penguin 300's so gooped up the biowheel doesn't turn. the 400 will go and go and go. One of mine has been essentially going for 2 years other than the odd power failure. I have only cleaned it a few times
In my opinion the filters are equivalent at best and that is assuming you clean the 330 on a regular basis. You get what you pay for I guess |

| my 400 has been noisy and rattled from from day one. i have literaly glued the entire impeller/diverter assembley back together, multiple times even.the 330 i have only has the impeller that moves and the peice that goes over the impeller.i would buy a new impeller/diverter unit but at the cost why not just buy a new filter.i hear ya on the pengin cleaning regiment though.the bio wheels aren't as good at all.they do collect a lot of crud.
