Nice fish soulfish =)
Ive been thinking about getting some killifish, and have finnaly found a place that sells them. Is there any information that you can give me on them? Max size, temperment, if they like to be around other kili's, ect? I researched them but all I seem to be able to find is sites saying how beautiful they are, one said that they were peaceful, but thats it.
Also the ones I'm interested in are all yellow, I havent found any pics or any info of these online. Anyone happen to know what type of fish this is?

NIce rocket panchax , a s they're also sold. The last ones I saw for sale were also that size, quite small.
Angelfish - do a web search for british and american killi clubs. Generally killies are small but 'spiky', pretty tough but can be fussy about water, though I find them almost bulletproof. The all yellow ones are a gold morph of green panchax I think.

id find the specific species you want to buy and research it, many can be quite different in the ways of agression and size among other things, figure out the kind you want then search on google for information about them, i would also suggest checking out aquabid.com as they have a very good selection of killies, also do alot of research on live foods as many will eat only live foods

I went back to the LFS today to see if the sales person could at least tell me what kind of killifish they were, but all she said was "Kilifish", she didnt know what type, infact I think I knew more than her! I'll look up the green panchax, if the yellow ones are just a morph of them.
So ... due to lack of information I went with my second option and picked up a albino paradise fish, that I knew things about.

try golden wonder killifish, they are fairly common in fish stores and kind of fit your description

Okay well I found something that looks kinda like the fish, I only have the scientific name, which is aphyosemion ocellatum.
What size tank and temperature do these fish like? They were in the same tank as the paradise fish I bought, getting along fine, so I was thinking about setting up a tank for them. Only everywhere I read says paradise fish like unheated water, so I'm not gonna heat it, I'm assuming killis like it in the high 70s?

I've kept a couple of aphyo. species. I keep them in small tanks, and I use a 25 watt heater though in a centrally heated room you could probably not bother. Some like upper, some prefer lower temps - research. I keep ex Aph. gardneri in a 3 gallon goldfish bowl with lots of plants ,no filter, and they tolerate terrible conditions and they breed for me.
The only time I saw rockets they were tiny so I didn't buy them. Now I've bred killies I know how tough they are so I'd buy them, or the equally tiny nothobranchius rachovii I saw at the same time

iv bin lookin at the killis for quite a while now, and i was wondering wy you can only really get hold of their eggs, and very often not the fish itself. Being a newbie to the hobby, i was wanting to get some without having to raise the fry, and hatch the eggs.

ne ideas???

cheers

They're not often seen as they're not farmed like other fish so they aren't on wholesaler lists so often. They're ususally distributed by hobbyists and specialist dealers I guess, esp. the more odd ones. It's a shame, they really are an ideal beginner fish - they're tough colourful and small, though a bit bitey. They don't have huge lifespans, but that's not such a big problem.
I odn't know the shops in kent well, but I'm sure there are some about in SE England, else you could always drive to a hobbyist/breeders, or try an auction if there are any.
