| killifish just ate my tetra! I just added a killifish to my tank, the guy at the pet store kinda talked me into and the fish looks amazing, however my fiance wanted to get some red fin tetras to add to the tank as well. They were really small and she looked in there today and saw half of the tetra hanging out of his mouth. We watched him finish the fish, he told me they like live foods and not to keep small fry in the tank with him but these fish were like 3/4". and i noticed he dosent really eat the flake food i feed my other fish what do i do? |

| I would get rid of it before it eats the rest of your small fish. Its always a good idea to research fish before getting them. If you don't this stuff happens.

| Keep the killie, get rid of the small fish - haha.
And yes, with the large mouths that killifish have, they can eat anything up to the size of a small Volkswagen. I keep mine with Rainbowfish, C. Loaches, BN Plecos, and Ottocinclus. Although the Ottos were very small when I got them, they never bothered those fish.
I did have one of my Killie fry grow faster than the rest. One day, all the small fry were no longer in the tank, but the large killie was (i.e. he ate them all).

| Yup...I had a killie eat full grown guppies. I second keep the killie.
Also one other thing to be aware off if the store didn't tell you...these fish are HUGE jumpers. If you decide to keep him make sure your tank is fully covered. They can and will jump high and far. I had one jump up and hit me in the face while I was doing a w/c......yum

| I 2nd the jumper thing. I opened my tank for feeding and one of my female killies made a direct leap for me, bouncing off my chest (I was about 2 feet away from the front) and hitting the floor. I quickly netted the fish and put it back in the tank and all was fine.

| I have had 2 golden wonders jump. Unfortunatley happened both times when I was not there and they dried up. And I do have a lid, but they somehow get up and out around the filter. If I made the hole any smaller, the filter would not fit through. |

| I have a huge killi that jumps up to my hand everytime I feed him. One of these days he's not going to land back in the water and hopefully the cat won't be there to toss him around like she did the others. :s
