Post gotta have a killie

I have a 10 gallon that I want to use for killifish. It's going to be my dorm tank.  It won't be set up for awhile yet.  I'm planning ahead.  Anyway, I've always wanted killifish and I'm taking this opportunity to get some.    Can anyone recommed a species to me?  I was thinking about Fundulopanchaz gardneri, but I'm open to more, and maybe better suggestions.  Killies can be really hard to find in fish stores.  Which is the most commonly found in LFS's?

Should I keep a sticktly killie tank or should I add some other fish?  I'm open for suggestions!  Anyone?

Post Re: gotta have a killie

Fishes of the gardneri complex are wonderful species of killi but they are raely found here in north america...if you can get your hands on them I'd go for it. You cna also try fish from the panchax group..the golden wonder killifish is often sen in pet stores aplocheilus....slightly less common is the american flagfish jordanellae floridae. The cynolebias species (namely cynolebias bellottii and niggrippinnis) offers startling colors(the niggripinnis is often described as "stars in a summer night) and the excitement of annuals which includes "instant fish!". Most species of Nothobranchius deamand live foods....but the guentheri and the kirki are alos excellent killifish. The aphyoseimon species also has several good killifish. The lyretail killi(A. australe) is a hardy and olorful fish that cna reside easily in a 2 gallon tank. You could keep most of the killifsh with the young as long as they are well fed(golden wonders are a exception)

so its your coice..and Im sure that soon you will be bitten by the killi bug and be keping some of the most brightly colored fish in the world.
